Services Provided

InGeo Design was engaged by Earthline Foundations and Shoring Ltd. to deliver excavation shoring design and field engineering support for the major reconstruction of the Highway 400 and Essa Road interchange. A key infrastructure upgrade for the City of Barrie, the project involved widening Essa Road to six lanes and replacing the Highway 400 overpass structures to improve traffic capacity and long-term safety.

InGeo designed a soldier pile and lagging system supported by tiebacks, tailored to accommodate the project’s phased bridge construction. Our approach supported initial work on the east and west bridges in Phase I, followed by the center bridge section in Phase II. The shoring system was engineered for flexibility and staged implementation, aligning with construction sequencing and site constraints.

With fast, reliable delivery of drawings and direct access to experienced engineers, InGeo ensured efficient coordination across multiple phases and helped maintain momentum on a complex transportation corridor.

Key Challenges

  • Phased bridge construction requiring staged shoring solutions
  • Shoring systems used on two sides for phasing requirements
  • Integration with active highway infrastructure and traffic management requirements
  • Coordination across multiple work fronts in a high-traffic corridor
  • Ensuring shoring performance and compliance throughout long project duration

InGeo’s Role & Scope

  • Design of soldier pile and lagging system with tiebacks and deadman to support phased excavation
  • Field reviews during key construction stages to verify compliance with design intent
  • Timely support and clear communication to maintain schedule and execution quality
