Regent Park Block 17S

InGeo Design provided excavation shoring and monitoring solutions for Regent Park, Block 17S, a 33-storey high-rise residential tower with a three-level underground parking facility. Developed by Daniels Corporation, this project is part of the broader revitalization of Regent Park, a landmark redevelopment initiative in Toronto focused on transforming aging infrastructure into a vibrant, mixed-income, mixed-use urban community.

Located along the active Dundas and River intersection, the project required excavation adjacent to public infrastructure, including TTC streetcar tracks, and existing residential and commercial structures. InGeo’s timely and construction-ready shoring design, along with our complete monitoring program, played a critical role in managing risk and ensuring a smooth excavation phase.

Drawing on extensive experience with urban sites and offering direct access to senior engineers, InGeo responded quickly to shifting site needs while maintaining technical clarity and adherence to City requirements.

Key Challenges

• Deep excavation supported by tiebacks avoiding other previously installed sharing systems and caissons from neighbouring projects

InGeo’s Role & Scope

• Design of shoring system including soldier piles and lagging with two rows of tiebacks
• Field reviews to verify design compliance and allow for site adjustments
• Pre-construction condition surveys of surrounding properties, including TTC streetcar lines and nearby structures
• Full excavation monitoring suite, including:
  1. Pile target monitoring to assess movement of shoring elements
  2. Precision monitoring of ground and structural displacement
  3. Vibration monitoring during excavation activities to safeguard infrastructure and buildings
• Ongoing collaboration with site teams and consultants, facilitated by direct access to InGeo’s senior engineers
